The diversity of high-quality modern African fashion has not been highly visible. During January’s Berlin Fashion Week, a so-far-unseen project emerged. They called it Africa Fashion Day Berlin.
This new platform presented itself from the center of Berlin on Jan. 15 at the prestigious Hotel Adlon Kempinski. Africa Fashion Day Berlin is a network for fashion designers with African, Afro-Caribbean and Afro-American backgrounds who live in Europe. It’s a platform that shows the wide variety of the new young, modern, global, high-end urban scene. In the U.S., Great Britain and Africa, African fashion is already a top seller. This season, they presented top designers, including Romero Bryan, Nomi by Naomi and Adam Paris in the runway show “Urban Fashion Night.”
With Africa Fashion Day Berlin, European and African influences are finally growing together, and the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin offers the perfect framework for doing so. The featured designers are quite talented and noteworthy. Adam Paris showed a delightful collection. Romero Bryan featured a sexy, shapely line that’s sophisticated. Over the years, London has produced the most cutting-edge fashion to ever grace a catwalk. Bryan has catapulted London to rival Paris, Milan and New York as one of the fashion capitals of the world.
From a young age, London-born Bryan had aspirations to become a world-renowned fashion designer. He began his work at the age of 13. His love for fashion was inspired by his grandfather and uncles who were both tailors. He was also influenced by his grandmother, a seamstress. Bryan graduated from the London College of Fashion in late 2005. His work and designs have been worn by celebrities such as Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Roland, Usher and Cameron Diaz.
Nomi By Naomi is a unique fashion label founded in 2008 by fashion designer Naomi Spieker. She hit the fashion market running, after her successful launch of a set of hooded scarves that became popular. Nom by Naomi developed a complete collection to fill your wardrobe.
